Ok, while that is pretty much true, I'll extrapolate a bit. Flattop (my last post) has become my traditional ride. This past weekend I finally figured out a route up that minimizes the amount of rode that I must be one (only a couple miles). The only drawback of the route is through one of the more bear-active areas of Anchorage. Finding this route took a little recon. The first time I ran into a couple spots that warned of extreme bear activity, resulting in me traveling the OPPOSITE direction. But I finally procured some bear spray and am perfecting whistling and talking to myself while biking. An hour + continuous trail climb is rough (yes I am complaining) but it makes me strong, and the downhill is AMAZING! Nothing like having your arms go numb and hands feel like they can barely hold on any longer!! I keep expanding this ride, and hope to soon make it through the pass then down to the coast!!!
I've also checked out Kincaid park. Kincaid has amazing cross-country ski trails. In the summer that means wide, rolling grass trails, pretty awesome. I did learn a good lesson while I was lost in the glee of thinking how amazing the riding was, to snap out of it as I rode within feet of a 7-foot bull moose. I hear the bull moose are pretty mellow co
Still no bear, but the Newman O's are keeping me strong. Be well, do good work, and enjoy life.
